Bridges Ventures, the venture capital company with a social mission, won the Social Investor of the Year Award at the 2008 European Venture Capital Journal Awards last Wednesday evening.

Bridges Ventures delivers social returns by investing in companies based in the most deprived areas of the UK and in businesses that offer a strong intrinsic social or environmental return in sectors such as healthcare, education and the environment. These returns are measured using the Bridges Ventures IMPACT scorecard and reported to investors alongside their financial returns.

Michele Giddens, Director at Bridges Ventures commented:

“We think it is excellent that the EVCJ has created this new category.  We hope it will inspire others in the private equity sector to get involved in social investment activities.  And we are certainly proud of being the first recipient of this award.”
