Bridges partner Brian Trelstad recently authored an article for the Harvard Business Review, where he outlined a framework to help potential investors think about how to invest for impact.

InMaking Sense of the Many Kinds of Impact Investing, Brian explains how an individual investor can examine their own impact preferences by thinking about the five ‘P’s’: Place, Process, Planet, Product and Paradigms. He emphasises the importance of establishing the appropriate level of impact risk (i.e. the likelihood of their desired outcome being delivered). And he suggests that we need to introduce the concept of ‘impact fidelity’ as a way to ensure that all of the stakeholders involved strive to achieve the investor’s stated impact preferences – in the same way as ‘fiduciary duty’ serves to protect investors in the mainstream investment world.
