GEV Wind Power (“GEV”), one of the world’s leading wind turbine repair and maintenance providers, has merged with Danish business Wind Power Lab (“WPL”), a leader in providing intelligent technology-based blade solutions to wind park operators.

GEV provides field blade repair and maintenance services to wind farm manufacturers and operators in the UK, Europe and the US, reducing downtime and maximising wind energy production. Its highly qualified technicians have repaired over 5,000 turbines to date, operating both onshore and in challenging offshore environments. As turbines increase in size and rotate faster, they become more prone to damage. These services have a vital role to play in supporting the growth of the wind energy sector, which is critical to the transition to a more sustainable economy.

Based in Denmark, the home of wind turbine technology, WPL provides world-class blade expertise and machine learning-enabled services for all wind farm park owners. Its clients utilise WPL services to identify blade defects and obtain data-driven repair recommendations, enabling them to optimise their blade maintenance strategies. This ultimately reduces costs and maximises production.

The combined group, which will operate with a global footprint, will be able to provide a comprehensive range of cost-effective predictive blade maintenance services. It will also be the only independent service provider that can provide services to the whole rotor blade value chain, introducing new technologies such as blade internal drone inspections to a wider client base.

Bridges, which has supported GEV since 2019 via its Sustainable Growth Funds, will continue to back the group; while the existing management teams, led by CEOs David Fletcher and Anders Røpke, will continue to lead their respective businesses.

David Fletcher, CEO of GEV, says: “Over the last few years, GEV has established itself as a global market-leader in wind turbine blade repair and maintenance. We are excited to be merging with WPL as we embark on our next growth phase; it will allow us to offer technology-enabled solutions that will help our clients be smarter about their long-term blade maintenance strategies.”

Jon Andrew, Chairman of GEV, says: “This is an incredibly exciting tie-up of two very complementary business. We are delighted to be creating a group that will be the go-to blade specialist in the industry, combining technology, engineering and focused wind turbine expertise. We can’t wait to get going and service our customers together.”
